Nanotechnology Introduction To Engineering Concept

The term 'Nanotechnology' is a specialized engineering concept that deals with devising processes for dealing with various materials whose dimensions are measured in nanometers and range from one to one hundred nanometers. The end product will be a very small storage device with a very high memory capacity.

Nanotechnology is also known as 'Molecular manufacturing' or molecular construction. Each article processed using nanotechnology has certain characteristic features by itself. Nanotechnology deals with these properties taking one molecule of the material at a time and building them to the desired object.

The other terms that indicate nanotechnology are Nanoscale engineering, Molecular mechanics, molecular machine systems and molecular nanotechnology. Very recently the Foresight Institute has suggested a new term to nanotechnology called 'Zettatechnology'.

Technically speaking nanotechnology deals with building molecule by molecule one of the following - a) incredibly small and highly advanced processors and chips of computers and machines or b) ordinary materials using highly advanced and extremely machines which are usually known as assemblers or fabricators.

Nanotechnology uses the molecular properties of an object to build a desired structure. The nanotechnology industry does what is called nanofabrication that refers to the actual designing part. In any device or material, every atom is removed unless the total structure is completely altered a desired or planned. Another method is to assemble the desired chip by putting together one atom at a time.

A number of recent innovations showcase the immense advancements that have been made possible by nanotechnology. For instance one can look at the products recently launched such as transparent sun blocks, specially designed golf balls that fly straight, trims in hummers, fabrics that are stain proof etc that clearly demonstrate the amazing use of nanotechnology in a number of fields.

Nanotechnology is a symbol of advanced developments in various fields such as chemistry, mathematics, computer engineering, biology, physics and chemistry. The applications of nanotechnology are used in a number of industries such as optics, medicine and health care, automobile, computer engineering etc.

The main objective of nanotechnology is to design and fabricate molecular machines and other molecular structures. It has been accepted worldwide that nanotechnology is sure to revolutionize the modern world in a massive way.

However, concerns have also been expressed as to the correct and genuine usage of nanotechnology. Scientists have cautioned that nanotechnology could also be put to malicious use and this would destrot the entire mankind. The Center for Responsible Nanotechnology is an organization that has as its vision - the use of nanotechnology exclusively for beneficial purposes. Reports are constantly generated on the various destructive applications of the technology and thus a note of caution is spread.

An introductory knowledge of nanotechnology is achieved when one knows what is to realize accurately as to what nanotechnology is and what it is not. This is because a number of definitions have been coined by many which even contradicts or differentiates the originally intended meaning of the term.

Nanotechnology is thus a wonderful achievement in natural science.
